Making friends isn't always easy for everyone. Support staff will introduce the special needs individual into communities and assist in helping them meet new people, whether it be through our group event program or one-on-one at a local restaurant or coffee shop.
Goals give structure to the life you lead. Everyone should have personal goals to strive for and perhaps a guardian may suggest goals they would like to see achieved as well. Support staff will listen and come up with a plan to achieve these goals. There is always something to strive for and once that goal is met it instills a sense of accomplishment to show those with special needs that they can do something all on their own.
Some special needs individuals would like to live on their own but lack the skills to do so. Support staff can assist with many of the basic skills needed to manage their own households. This includes, cooking their own meals, doing their own laundry, and keeping their living space clean, neat, and organized. Mastering these skills and becoming self-sufficient boosts confidence and self-esteem and instills a sense of pride.
A healthy lifestyle is very important. Our support staff will help by giving advice on alternative healthy choices of food, exercise routines in the community or at the gym, and also keeping away from unhealthy vices.
What do I spend my money on? That question pops up in the special needs community often. Support staff will assist to help spend their money wisely. Important purchases, food, rent, medication, etc. comes first, not that new 75 inch 4k television or the latest cell phone. Budgeting money is important as well to ensure enough money is saved until that next source of income comes in. Support will come up with a breakdown of how much the special needs individual can spend per week and what to spend it on based on their income.
Assist with Job applications and job training once hired. Support will guide the special needs individual with lengthy job applications to ensure they are filling them out correctly. Once hired we can further assist with job training to build confidence and learn more in depth on how to complete tasks.
Many individuals in the special needs community are lifelong learners. They don't believe their education should end at age 18 or 21. Support staff can accompany special needs individuals to classes at community colleges and vocational schools, they can also provide informal tutoring at the library by utilizing flashcards, workbooks, puzzles and games.
Assist with scheduling and transportation to medical appointments. The special needs individual will learn how to schedule with our support staff and check-in once at their appointment.
It is important to enjoy your time together and let loose from time to time. We provide entertainment in a one-on-one capacity and also with group events. Enjoying a movie on a rainy day or perhaps participate in more physical enjoyment with bowling. On a nice sunny day we get out to the boardwalks all up and down the Jersey coast or go hiking in a local park. Group events gives those with special needs the opportunity to make new friends and explore places they may have never visited before, sporting events, concerts, and museums just to name a few of the wide array of group events we participate in.
